Schlichte started their competitive cooking at age 12 when they won the “Mary T Schlichte Apple Pie Contest” at the county fair, named after their late grandmother, who used to win the contest every year.
 
Schlichte wants validation that moving away from home and truly finding who they are in this world was worth it. If they win, Schlichte would like to start their own cooking series called Ugh, That’s So Good! Schlichte will donate part of their winnings to The Okra Project, which is an organization that provides food security for trans people.
