Fishback stars in the upcoming Warner Bros. film Judas and the Black Messiah alongside Daniel Kaluuya and LaKeith Stanfield. The story, directed and co-written by Shaka King, centers on Fred Hampton (Kaluuya), Chairman of the Illinois Black Panther Party, and William O’Neal (Stanfield), the undercover FBI informant who helped bring Fred down, which ultimately led to Fred’s assassination. Fishback plays Deborah Johnson, a member of the Black Panther Party, Fred Hampton’s girlfriend and mother of his child. The film is due for a February 12th theatrical release.

In January of 2018, Fishback was named one of The Hollywood Reporter’s Sundance Film Festival’s breakout stars for her critically praised performance in Night Comes On for director Jordana Spiro, which won the festival’s audience Next award.
In addition to acting, Fishback is a skilled spoken word poet and playwright. Her senior thesis at Pace University was a self-written 90-minute one-woman spoken word poetry performance titled Subverted. The production explored Black identity and existence in a system rooted in inequality from 20 different viewpoints and received praise from Gloria Steinem, David Simon and more. The play also garnered Fishback a New York Innovative Theatre Award nomination for Outstanding Solo Performance.
Fishback was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY, where she currently resides.
