In 2013, substantial budget cuts swept through California, including laying off over 100 court reporters in Los Angeles and privatizing civil courtrooms. At that time, Kumar decided to start her own court reporting firm with her identical twin sister, Kamryn, also a court reporter.
With extensive experience reporting cases from deposition through the courtroom, Kumar has garnered a deep knowledge of the entire life cycle of civil cases in California. She has worked on a wide variety of civil and family law cases, including ones involving mesothelioma, toxic torts, business disputes, custody and divorce.
While at the Los Angeles Superior Court, she led the official record for high-profile cases involving Britney Spears and Kevin Federline; Mel Gibson and his former wife Oksana; and Los Angeles Dodgers owner Frank McCourt and his then-wife Jamie. Until 2012, Kumar proudly served as the official court reporter for Judge Scott M. Gordon.
Born and raised in Southern California, Kumar was a four-time State Champion cross-country runner in high school.
Kumar started playing golf when she was ten years old with her father, taking her out on the course with him. Kumar ended up being the only female that played on the men’s golf team in high school because, at that time, there was no women’s team. She continued to play golf competitively in college. She still plays regularly and maintains an impressive nine handicap.
Kumar is married and she and her husband have two young children, who are following in their mother’s footsteps and are very active in sports.
