Hector may be best known for his role as drug kingpin Marlo Stanfield on the critically acclaimed HBO series The Wire. His portrayal of Marlo Stanfield landed him on Variety’s list of 10 TV Best Bad Guys and in the number two spot on Rolling Stone’s 40 Greatest TV Villains of All Times. After The Wire, he went straight to work as the villain Benjamin Knox Washington on another critically acclaimed series, HEROES on NBC.
Currently, Hector plays Detective Jerry Edgar, partner to Harry Bosch, played by Titus Welliver, on the Amazon Original series Bosch. When asked how he feels about being one of the good guys for a change, Hector said, “Bosch is the most engaging and realistic cop show out there. I am over excited to be a part of it!”
Jamie’s intensity, expressiveness, and ability to convey subtleties has earned him dozens of film and television roles. A few of those roles are business tycoon Devon Finch on Queen of the South, Alonso Creem on the SyFy thriller, The Strain, Arthur Solomon in the Vietnam-era drama series Quarry, Drifty on Power, and Link Cordell on the Emmy nominated Person of Interest. He will appear in theaters early 2019, in Canal Street, a faith-based film where he plays Pastor Sam. He also appeared in the movie in Tupac Shakur biopic All Eyez on Me, Doubting Thomas, Blood Ties and Max Pain.
Hector truly enjoys the process: from decoding the script to flushing out the dialogue, he immerses himself into the worlds of these complex characters that he’s often cast in. Conjointly Hector writes and directs. The Brooklyn-born actor considers himself a health advocate, promoting vegetarian diets, along with strenuous workouts. He strongly believes that balance is the key to life and enjoys spending quality time with his wife and two children; he can often be seen riding his bike with his kids in tow.
Paying it forward is also a huge part of Jamie’s life, he is committed to helping others discover their artistic voice. He is the founder of Moving Mountains Inc., a non-profit organization that gives inner-city youth the opportunity to study the arts. Students aged 6-21 years old can take free drama, dance, vocal and film classes, finding opportunity and mentorship to keep them focused while on the road to a successful future. He’s received several awards for his work as an activist and humanitarian.
