Red Oaks is a half-hour coming-of-age dramedy set in suburban New Jersey in 1985. David Meyers is an NYU student, and a young man at a crossroads—conflicted about his major, confused about his relationship with his high school sweetheart, and unsure what to make of his parents’ recent confession that they may never have really loved each other. Hired as an assistant tennis pro at Red Oaks Country Club, David finds himself the recipient of unsolicited life advice from a colorful group of coworkers and club members, over the course of one eventful summer of self-discovery.

Character Descriptions
David is an NYU student, and a young man at a crossroads—conflicted about his major, confused about his relationship with his high school sweetheart, and unsure what to make of his parents’ recent confession that they may never have really loved each other. Hired as assistant tennis pro at Red Oaks Country Club, David finds himself the recipient of unsolicited life advice from a colorful group of coworkers and club members, over the course of one eventful summer of self-discovery.
Sam is a man at midlife struggling to adapt when his safe world is suddenly upended. Recovering from a heart attack suffered on a community tennis court, Sam finds himself drowning in medical bills, questioning his marriage, lamenting a lost love back in Korea… and even more determined to see his son David join him in his accounting practice.
Judy is a housewife and mother in the midst of an identity crisis. Married right out of secretarial school, she missed out on the freedom and experimentation of the 1960s, and now, with her husband Sam's health in question and her son David about to leave the nest, is beginning to question who she is as a woman—and how she wants to spend the next chapter of her life.
Getty the club president, is the "gogo 80s" personified—a Corvette driving corporate raider and Master of the Universe. But reaching middle age makes a man introspective, and Getty spends the summer questioning his life, considering his legacy… and engaging in a battle of wills with his art student daughter, Skye, who is more like him than either will admit.
The club's tennis pro is a wily charmer who flirts with all the members' wives, glad hands their wealthy husbands, and brags to one and all about the time he beat Jimmy Connors. (Neglecting to mention that tennis champion was eleven at the time.) A gambler and aspiring Social climber, Nash is always on the lookout for opportunities to make a fast buck, and quick to offer advice to his young assistant David.
A nursing student who moonlights as an aerobics instructor at the club, Karen is David's All American girlfriend. Doting and adorable, she aspires to a life in the 'burbs and membership in the club. But her future with David becomes complicated when a lighthearted foray into fashion modeling brings a romantic rival into her orbit.
Forced by bad grades to spend the summer on "house arrest" in New Jersey instead of in Paris as planned, Skye becomes a fixture at the club—and an alluring new presence in David's life. French speaking, erotica reading, a denizen of New York's downtown art scene, she is unlike any girl David has ever known… and represents the world outside the sleepy suburban one he's known until now.
Head valet and stoner philosopher who's nursed a crush on lifeguard Misty ever since they were Drivers Ed partners back in high school. When he learns that Misty's relationship with fellow lifeguard Steve LeFevre is on the rocks, Wheeler makes it his mission to win her heart at any cost.
